A change has been made to the US U-20 roster, just a little over a week before the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to kick off: Rachel Hill will replace McKenzie Meehan due to injury.
DEFENDERS (6): Stephanie Amack (Stanford; Pleasanton, Calif.), Brittany Basinger (Penn State; Purcellville, Va.), Christina Gibbons (Duke; Raleigh, N.C.), Katie Naughton (Notre Dame; Elk Grove Village, Ill.), Kaleigh Riehl (BRYC; Fairfax Station, Va.), Cari Roccaro (Notre Dame; East Islip, N.Y.)
MIDFIELDERS (6): Carlyn Baldwin (BRYC; Oakton, Va.), Nickolette Driesse (Florida State; Wayne, N.J.), Rachel Hill (Connecticut; Rollinsford, N.H.), Rose Lavelle (Wisconsin; Cincinnati, Ohio), Mallory Pugh (Real Colorado; Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Taylor Racioppi (PDA; Ocean Township, N.J.), Andi Sullivan (Bethesda SC; Lorton, Va.)
FORWARDS (6): Makenzy Doniak (Virginia; Chino Hills, Calif.), Summer Green (North Carolina; Milford, Mich.), Lindsey Horan (PSG; Golden, Colo.), Savannah Jordan (Florida; Fayetteville, Ga.), Margaret Purce (Harvard; Silver Spring, Md.)
Hill has a long history with the U-20s in this cycle, starting with the team in late 2013. She’s played in 8 of the last 9 matches, including all five World Cup Qualifying matches, in which she started four and played the full 90 minutes in three. Meehan goes even further back; she’s been with the team since the first camp of the cycle in early 2013, and was even a late addition to the 2011-12 U-18s, the team that formed the core of the current U-20s.
Meehan has played as a forward, while Hill had mostly been an attacking midfielder; we will see when they begin play (next week, Tuesday August 5th) if Hill will take Meehan’s position or play a little more withdrawn.
